The Firebird and the Song of Eos

A Ten-Year Odyssey and the Light of True Authorship

Previous article: Firebird — The Light of Authorship

The Firebird entered the night.

It passed through the Passage of Eos — whom others remember as Jesus.

And it returned bearing the light.

The ancient Greeks observed birds not merely as creatures of the sky, but as signs and omens of a higher world. Their appearance, the direction of their flight, their spiral and circular movements through the ether of the air could be understood as reminders that human beings do not dwell exclusively within the visible realm, but beyond it; within the beyond-song that bridges the abyss and becomes a passage.

The Firebird was born within this threshold.

It is not merely an omen of the upper world, nor simply a mythological symbol. It is a mediation. A passage between two realities. Between the human being wandering among images and reflections, and the higher self calling him to remember who he truly is.

Perhaps this is why the story of the Firebird was never merely the story of a photograph.

Its existence is symbolic.

It concerns memory and the ode of the path that leads everywhere, because it is both song and eros. It concerns remembrance in the most ancient sense of the word: the higher memory. The return of the scattered member to the body from which it was separated. The re-membering. The reunification of that which was once divided.

Yet beside the world of art, truth, and eros, another world lies in wait. The world of commerce, influence, images, and reflections. A world in which images are detached from their source, reproduced, renamed, exchanged, and returned transformed, severed from their truth. A world in which living presence risks being replaced by its commercial idol.

This ten-year journey began symbolically with a renaming.

When the Firebird began to circulate under a foreign name and became associated with narratives that did not belong to it.

From that moment began an odyssey of transformations through exhibitions, catalogues, archives, publications, newspapers, and courtrooms.

The mythological Hermes, the cunning thief and psychopomp, is the bearer of images and reflections. It is no accident that ancient literature already marks him with the seal of cunning, disguise, and the shifting of boundaries.

In the age we are passing through, deeper truths seek to emerge into the light, so that human beings may cease to be at the mercy of falsehood, images, and their reflections.

The omen of this unveiling is the Firebird itself, the song that becomes a passage, and the odyssey of its transformations.

Over the years, the Firebird encountered both faces of reality. It travelled through exhibitions, catalogues, archives, and publications. It appeared in unexpected places, acquired names that were not its own, became attached to narratives that did not belong to it, and found itself at the centre of public and legal journeys that now span more than a decade.

And yet none of these things constitutes its final destination.

For the Firebird belongs neither to galleries nor archives nor markets.

It belongs to the Passage of Eos.

To that ethereal threshold which burns away all that is not true. To that place where memory becomes remembrance. Where human beings begin to recognize within themselves something older than their personal history — an older self that has been waiting.

The ten photographs that follow do not merely recount the journey of a work.

They recount the journey of a symbol.

The journey of an omen.

The journey of an ethereal flame which, despite the transformations, shadows, and distortions of the world, continues to remind us that there is always a path of return.

The image can never replace the primordial source.

It is destined to dissolve within the ether that burns away all that is not true.

What endures is what matters.

The light of authenticity.

The measure of Eos.

Το re-member.
